The MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education is dedicated to supporting the lifelong learning of physicians and healthcare professionals. We offer high-quality professional development opportunities that enhance clinical skills, support evidence-based practice, and improve patient outcomes.

We recognize the essential role continuing medical education plays in sustaining excellence in care and advancing community health. Our programs are designed to strengthen clinician competence, improve performance, and positively impact the well-being of the patients and communities we serve.

Our Mission & Goals

The MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education is committed to:

  • Providing high-quality education to healthcare professionals across Michigan, the nation, and globally.

  • Recognizing the vital role of continuing medical education in sustaining excellence in patient care and enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities.

  • Continuously evaluating and improving our programs to ensure educational relevance, quality, and effectiveness.

  • Operating in full alignment with current AOA and ACCME guidelines for continuing medical education.

  • Supporting physicians in meeting their CME requirements for licensure and professional growth.

Target Audience

Our programs are designed for healthcare professionals worldwide, including physicians, residents, nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, and other allied health practitioners seeking to advance their clinical knowledge and hands-on skills.

Educational Impact

The CME programs offered by the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine are designed to enhance physician competence and clinical performance through high-quality, evidence-informed educational activities. Each activity is grounded in the core competencies essential to clinical excellence:

  • Patient Care – providing compassionate, effective, and evidence-based treatment
  • Medical Knowledge – applying current scientific and clinical insights
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills – building strong collaborative relationships with patients and peers 
  • Professionalism – maintaining ethical standards and a commitment to continuous growth
  • Systems-Based Practice – navigating and improving healthcare delivery systems

Our goal is to create meaningful, measurable outcomes in a physician’s:

  • Clinical strategies, skills, and task-specific abilities 
  • Confidence and perceived self-efficacy in practice 
  • Patient care and health outcomes

All CME activities are rigorously evaluated to ensure these outcomes are met and to drive continuous improvement across our offerings.

Accreditation

The Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is dually accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Types of Activities

The MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine offers a wide range of continuing medical education activities to meet the diverse needs of healthcare professionals. These include:

  • Live conferences and seminars 
  • Multi-day Osteopathic Manual Medicine courses 
  • Faculty development programs
  • Web-based CME and enduring materials

We also partner with area hospitals to accredit medical grand rounds and case-based programs, supporting ongoing learning in clinical settings.

ACCME Accreditation

Accreditation certificate from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®), awarded to Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, recognizing its accreditation to provide continuing medical education for physicians through November 30, 2028.

AOA Accreditation

Certificate to Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, recognizing a 5-Year Accreditation with Commendation as a Category 1 CME Sponsor, awarded in October 2021 by the American Osteopathic Association through October 2026.
