Effective July 1, 2025, the Statewide Campus System (SCS) will officially transition to the Michigan State University Graduate Medical Education Alliance (GME Alliance). This strategic rebranding reflects a broader and more inclusive mission, serving both osteopathic (D.O) and allopathic (M.D) education communities.
The GME Alliance is a nationally recognized consortium dedicated to delivering innovative and comprehensive educational support for residents, fellows, faculty, and healthcare professionals. We support institutions in achieving and surpassing ACGME accreditation, with resources tailored to both osteopathic and allopathic training.
By building strong partnerships and a wide-reaching network, we provide programs in faculty and professional development, scholarly activity, and resident education – promoting excellence in a collaborative and supportive academic environment.
The transition to the GME Alliance signifies an expanded vision and a more inclusive mission. This new identity underscores our strengthened commitment to supporting a diverse and evolving network of institutions, offering:
While rooted in osteopathic principles, we are committed to delivering high-quality educational programs that support and benefit all learners, regardless of their training background.
Established in 1989 as the Consortium of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Education and Training (COGMET), the organization was renamed Statewide Campus System (SCS) in 1998. It earned accreditation from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) as an Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institution (OPTI).
Statewide Campus System (SCS) played a key role in the transition to the Single Accreditation System (SAS) in 2014. After this transition, 95% of the 141 residency programs achieved Continued Accreditation under ACGME standards.
As the GME Alliance, we honor this legacy while embracing a broader mandate—welcoming diverse partners and supporting graduate medical education for both D.O. and M.D. pathways in Michigan and beyond.
Member institutions are integral to MSUCOM’s community-based distributive model of medical education, serving as primary sites for clinical clerkships. Many MSUCOM graduates go on to complete their residency training at GME Alliance–affiliated programs throughout Michigan.
In 2025, 42% of all COM medical graduates matched into a GME Alliance member residency program.
As a vital component of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, the GME Alliance advances excellence in postdoctoral medical education through collaboration, leadership, and innovation. Our initiatives align with MSUCOM’s mission to provide outstanding training experiences and promote meaningful engagement within the communities we serve.
Our vision is to transform graduate medical education by creating coordinated, inclusive, and innovative programs that meet the evolving needs of residents, faculty, and institutions at both local and national levels.
Our mission is to design, promote, and deliver high-quality educational programs in collaboration with MSUCOM, supporting academic and clinical institutions in meeting ACGME accreditation standards and advancing medical practice across both osteopathic and allopathic disciplines.
